About Router Bits
Other well known router bits include dovetails router bits,
and stile and rail router bits. Both considered to be joining or joint
router bits, they are used to create a connection between two pieces of
wood. Dovetail Router Bits are commonly used to create corner joints and
are widely used in fine furnishings for bedroom furniture drawers. Dovetails
router bits may be best described as the bottom half of a triangle that
has had the top point removed. the dovetail joint is created by interlocking
the male and female ends of the material that the router bits have removed
and left remaining. Usually used in conjunction with a pattern called
a jig, dovetail router bits when properly used create a very strong and
attractive joint.
Stile and Rail Router Bits (also commonly reversed to be
called rail and stile router bits) are most commonly used to create cabinet
doors. The profile cut by these router bits creates a large surface space
for glue to adhere and also cuts an inside or hidden tongue and groove
to help the two pieces of material to interlock. Stile and rail router
bits come in sets of two router bits or one interchangeable router bit
that cuts both profiles. The set of two router bits is preferred by most
professionals. It provides a faster alternative to adjusting and changing
the cutter of a single router bit and proves to be more accurate over
time and many uses. The single stile and rail router bit is perfect for
the occasional user of this tool and is often less expensive than the
two router bit set.
